The Making of Teri Choti – A Haryanvi Folk-style Romantic Song Rooted in Culture

“Teri Choti” is a romantic Haryanvi folk-style song created under Raahein Gharana, a platform dedicated to preserving and evolving India’s native and folk music traditions. The song celebrates her beauty and playful nature, created with the hope that its emotions can connect across cultures and remain timeless. It brings a fresh romantic expression to Haryanvi folklore while staying true to the tradition that defines it.

A Blend of Tradition and Modern Creativity

What makes “Teri Choti” truly special is the way folk artists and native instruments come together with a new melody and contemporary musical ideas. Traditional instruments like Harmonium, Indian Banjo, Ghada, and Ghungroo, along with modern additions like Octapad, Guitar, and Keyboard, are blended in a smooth, thoughtful way. This fusion shows how folk music can evolve while still staying deeply connected to its roots.

Two Generations, One Beautiful Duet

The song is performed as a conversational duet by DC Madana, known for the massive success of “Teri Aakhya Ka Yo Kajal,” and Somvir Kathurwal, a popular contemporary Haryanvi voice. Their collaboration brings two generations together — one grounded in tradition, the other representing today’s evolving folk culture.

This intergenerational connection is taken even further as DC Madana Ji’s son and Somvir Kathurwal’s daughter join the chorus, beautifully symbolizing how music and culture pass from one generation to another.

A Historic Location That Breathes Culture

“Teri Choti” was filmed at the historic Bamla Bhiwani Chaupal in Bamla village. This Chaupal is not just a location — it is a cultural landmark and the birthplace of Pandit Neki Ram Sharma, an important figure in Haryana’s history. Even today, the Chaupal remains a hub for musical gatherings, village discussions, and cultural life.

For the shoot, the team revived the old Chaupal’s charm using traditional décor, colours, and elements inspired by Haryana’s heritage. Costumes such as the Haryanvi pagadi and folk outfits were carefully selected to reflect the authentic look, feel, and identity of the region.

The Creative Minds Behind the Song

The poetic lyrics of “Teri Choti” are written by Sombir Jangra, and the melody is composed by Mandeep Panghal. A total of 16 artists came together to shape the music, vocals, choreography, sound design, and production — making this song a true team effort.

The entire visual storytelling and the making process were brought to life in a film by Fareed Kairon, showcasing the creative journey and the passion behind every moment of “Teri Choti.”

A Song That Honors the Past and Speaks to the Present

From its romantic theme to its folk instruments, from its historic location to its cross-generational team, “Teri Choti” is a song deeply rooted in Haryana’s culture. At the same time, it carries a modern, refreshing tone that makes it easy for listeners from different backgrounds to connect with it.

“Teri Choti” stands as a reminder that folk music — when nurtured with love, creativity, and respect — can cross boundaries, touch hearts, and become timeless.
